Day 305 - Nacho Libre Again

We watched an old movie tonight, Nacho Libre starring Jack Black. At first it might seem to be an inane film about a country monk in Mexico who wants to be a champion wrestler. In the film he gets into the ring and loses time after time, partly because he hasn’t trained well and partly because he has nothing to fight for.

Nacho is an orphan living in a monastery, which he hates, cooking, which he isn’t interested in, and being stepped on and ridiculed wherever he goes. He is using Mexican wrestling as a way to make a mark for himself and still fails.

Then he gets the opportunity of a lifetime to fight the reigning champion of Lucha Libre (wrestling) even though he is far from ready. As he is fighting and almost losing, he finally sees the children from the orphanage at the monastery and has something to fight for. He comes alive and wins the match with big champion and gets the respect he sought.

In a lot of ways, this measures the mistakes we make when we go into business. If it is all about making money for ourselves and we are constantly taking and taking, we may very well fail because this will become our reputation. However, if we give first and draw people to us, our business will come alive and produce wealth far beyond our needs.
