Day 278 - A Memorable Friend

Some people make quite an impression on us that remains many years after their passing.

One such person was Florence Robinson, who was a newspaper columnist on the Placentia Courier and later the News-Times in the 1960s and 1970s. At that time she was already in her 70s and was recognized by everyone wherever she appeared.

She lived in a tiny apartment on the northeast corner of Orange Grove and Bradford in Placentia, just across the street from my parents’ house. We would often see her walking up and down the street, always looking for some kind of story.

Florence was born in 1893 and passed away in May 1975. The City Council adjourned its meeting of June 3, 1975 in her honor.

It’s been 40 years since I knew her and worked with her. Mostly I remember he gruff comments and her love of the city of Placentia. She was a fixture at City Council meetings, knew all of the city officials, and always had kind word for them.

I will always remember her.
